Redbox Platform is designed for merchants with multi-site retail locations. Its virtualized and open architecture delivers comprehensive data security, powerful network infrastructure, and a platform to host a variety of in-store retail applications.

Comprehensive Network Security

At the heart of Redbox Platform is Reliant Security’s innovative, virtualized security architecture, providing comprehensive protection against data security threats. Redbox Platform addresses the evolving PCI technical requirements. PCI compliance is an ever-evolving part of the retailing landscape as new threats emerge.  These are particularly evident in the onrush of mobile shopping apps and mobile payment technologies. Each of these threats require a common approach to logging, breach detection, encryption, and monitoring. By eliminating the need for complex integration of multiple network products, Redbox Platform substantially reduces the cost of PCI Remediation. Read more information on PCI Technical Controls.

Application Hosting

The Redbox Platform’s virtualized, open architecture also provides you with a hosting environment. You can now leverage the Redbox Platform to host a number of in-store applications without requiring the purchase of additional hardware to support them. Current Redbox.  The more applications you host on Redbox Platform, the more value you can extend to your customers and operational staff. The end-result is the Redbox provides a very impressive return on investment.

Networking Infrastructure

Networking is the foundation of any retail systems deployment. Redbox Platform incorporates robust networking features to replace or augment traditional networking components. Unlike the traditional “want a new feature, buy a new box” approach, these features are highly configurable and can address a wide variety of environments without the need for new hardware. VPN functionality enables private communication to headquarters, payment processors or trusted vendors. The Redbox firewall provides network segmentation for both external and internal network segments. In addition, Redbox Platform incorporates a secure wireless infrastructure, enabling staff and guest wireless access while maintaining centralized control and monitoring.

Locally Hosted, Centrally Managed

As your stores become more cluttered with technology, these distributed systems become increasingly difficult to deploy and manage. Redbox Platform addresses this issue twofold: (1) In your stores, you have one device to host each of these technologies, which simplifies your store architecture and reduces costs. (2) To help manage hundreds or thousands of remote Redbox appliances deployed across your enterprise, Redbox Platform includes a centralized console that enables plug and play deployment, device monitoring, and configuration management.

Configurations can be modified on an enterprise, group or individual basis. The Redbox Configuration Management framework allows Redbox Platform to be dynamically built from a single generic image into store-specific requirements. This includes the automatic generation of the configuration of all of the network setup, virtual machines, security controls, and store apps. All of your configuration and software package data is securely and centrally maintained which enables you to maintain software versions, control system changes and apply patches and updates. For deployment or replacement, Redbox Platform only requires you to plug it in at the store, and then configures itself. It couldn’t be simpler, especially when compared to traditional data security implementations.

Audit Ready

Redbox Platform is designed to provide retail IT managers and compliance auditors with a centralized view into performance against operating and PCI compliance requirements. It securely automates and manages many compliance-related tasks and data security events, automatically polling stores for event logs, and creating alerts where further investigation is required. Logs, file integrity, system status, access controls, local vulnerability scanning, and Redbox configurations can be viewed, accessed and managed from corporate headquarters.

Store Network Diagram

The Reliant Redbox provides one of the broadest ranges of connectivity available covering both WAN and LAN technologies. Based on an open architecture, a wide range of different hardware configurations are available supporting a vast array of LAN and WAN network options.

LAN Switch Ports
Redboxes, depending on the hardware model, are equipped with one to sixteen 10/100/1000 gigabit Ethernet ports. Each of these ports can be setup as a separate layer 3 network, or aggregated together, in any combination, as a layer 2 switch.

WAN Connectivity
Any interface or combination of interfaces can be setup on a Redbox as a WAN interface. Available interfaces include Ethernet, USB, or serial. Connectivity options typically include Ethernet to a broadband modem or router, MPLS or T1 router, VSAT, or USB 3G/4G modem.

VLANs and Wireless VLANs
The Redbox has full support for 802.1Q VLAN trunking on any interfaces. Up to 1024 separate VLANs can be supported with VLANs assigned to any combination of physical or virtual interfaces. In addition, the Redbox can interface with wireless access point or switch and provide support for wireless VLANs via a trunk interface.

WWAN
Via a USB interface the Redbox can accommodate 3G or 4G mobile wireless data modems. Use of the modem is controlled by flexible scripts which can manage use of the link based on usage, network availability, time of day, source, destination, protocol, and port.

VPN
The Redbox uses OpenVPN, a very flexible and efficient SSL based VPN that provides the ability to run smoothly and securely over any WAN medium.

Primary or Backup Connectivity
The Redbox can provide primary or backup WAN connectivity off of any of its interfaces. It can be setup to have, for example, primary connectivity using DSL with backup connectivity via a 3G/4G wireless link. The Redbox can also provide backup connectivity to a location, when paired with another router. One common configuration is a Redbox deployment at a site paired with an existing MPLS router with the Redbox providing backup connectivity via 3G/4G or broadband.

Routing Protocols
Most standard based routing protocols are supported including RIP, OSPF, and BGP.

QOS
Robust quality of service options are available that can be establish on a per interface level. These include custom packet queuing and prioritization.

Specs
Various models of Redbox hardware are available, depending on the anticipated use in the store environment.

  • Single Core or Multi-Core Atom Processor
  • Up to 16 Networking Ports
  • Up to 4GB Ram
  • 2, 4, or up to 16 GigE Ethernet Interfaces
  • Up to 16GB of Compact Flash, or 2.5” 320GB Disk

Redbox Operating System: Debian Linux

Fanless platform reduces power consumption
We offer multiple Redbox models, with the smallest being 40mm in height. The Redbox can be deployed virtually anywhere. Its space-saving design offers flexibility and cost savings while maintaining the high throughput and availability required for network security, acceleration and other network applications.

1.66 GHz Processing Power
The Redbox can be fitted with a variety of Intel ATOM processors, including the Intel D410 or the D510, which are the newest versions of the 32nm Intel Atom.
Both CPUs have come with 1.66 GHz of processing power. The D410 is a single core, while the D510 is a dual core.
